Description
During the second World War, Americans used colorful, patriotic cachets on their envelopes to show support for the war effort. Many of those cacheted envelopes came from Minkus Stamp Company, as did the one in this offer. The war ended in mid-1945, and perhaps the envelope in this offer was used as a celebration of victory, or perhaps the sender merely wanted to use up the ones he had left over. This cover bears a multi-color "United for Victory" design from Minkus, and also carries a one-cent and half-cent stamp from the 1938 Presidential series. The cover has a neatly typed address and was cancelled in Erie, PA, on October 3, 1945. It's a piece of philatelic and military history! Check the scan for details.
