The caption on the cover reads "Steve Carlton became baseball's all time strikeout leader entering the game one strikeout behind Nolan Ryan's 3521. Carlton fanned Mike Ramsey in the first and Lonnie Smith in the second to go one ahead of Ryan. Carlton finished the game with six K's for a total of 3526".
