    Description

    SS JOHN B. COWLE ship first day cover with a postmark from Liberty, MO  dated June 15, 2020. Color image by Ken Marschall printed on cachet #1541 of the ship by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964.
    This 623' bulk cargo freighter was transporting iron ore when she sank on July 12. 1909 on Lake Superior. See her web pages for the details of her design, construction and service history.  14 crewmen were lost in this disaster when she collided in a fog with SS Isaac M. Scott. The wreck is located in the Whitefish Point Underwater Preserve.
    Cover is franked with a  3 cent Soo Locks stamp # 1078 on a 55 cent American Flag stamped envelope # U-700 (FDOI).
