Sergeant York fought with the US forces in France during 1917-18. This was
trench warfare, included large artillery guns and the introduction of armored tanks
and biplanes. The Americans tipped the balance of power after England/France vs,
Germany and allies, had stalemated in 1917. The end came in November 1918
when the Germans had expended most of their military age men.
Sergeant Alvin C.York from Tennessee, received the Medal of Honor for his heroism.
He captured 32 enemy machine gun nests, killed 28 German soldiers and captured
132 others. He was ordered to tour US cities to encourage recruitment and was the
subject of a 1941 movie
Sergeant York
