WW II Ships named for famous Americans.
Joel Chandler Harris (1848-1908) was famous as the author of
Uncle Remus

This 441 foot cargo ship was built in Mobile, Alabama in 1942 and transported troops to overseas
US and Allied Forces during WW II. The ship was sold for commercial cargo use in 1948 and had
six different names and seven owner before she was recycled for scrap metal in 1968,
