    Description

This tall, very rare Arts and Crafts period flute or vase was made by James Powell and Sons, the forerunner of Whitefriars Glass, what was advertised as the oldest glass house in Great Britain with records dating back to 1720. James Powell purchased the plant in 1834 and Whitefriars closed in 1980. This vase is assumed to have been designed by Harry Powell and it was produced sometime between 1880 and 1910. The color is Straw Opalescent and it is uranium glass. This is true antique vaseline glass.
The flute stands 11-3/4" (29.8 cm) tall and measures 2-3/4" (7 cm) in diameter at the mouth. The foot is 4-1/8" (10.5 cm) in diameter. There is one thing that separates this vase from perfection and that is a small 1/4" (6.4 mm) long shallow mark that can be barely felt with a fingernail. Overall, the piece is in excellent condition without chips, flea bites, scratches, staining, or repairs.
The second photo is a collage of the vase against a black background and also how it reacts to black light.
