Fifty 5c Nevada Statehood Stamps
Description
This Nevada Statehood Issue stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of Nevada’s admission into statehood. The United States first gained control of the region following the Mexican-American War. The Nevada Territory split from the Utah Territory in 1861. The territory obtained statehood in 1864. The stamp depicts a map of the state and an image of the mining camp Virginia City, with mountains in the background. The state experienced a period of growth following the discovery of silver at Comstock Lode.
