British Virgin Islands 2017 Platinum Wedding "Flowers of Love" Coin
We are incredibly happy with this coin and have actually spent a lot of time making every flower in the design associate with HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip's special wedding anniversary together.
Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip have had an impressive life together and have devoted their lives to the task of monarchy. The couple initially met at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth in 1939 when the Queen was simply 13- years-old, and began exchanging letters prior to eventually becoming officially engaged in 1947, following the Queen's 21st birthday. The two wed later in the same year and in November this year will celebrate their Platinum Wedding anniversary. The Queen was crowned 5 years after their wedding following the death of her father King George VI, who died aged only 56, and although the transition changed their lives forever the couple have actually approached their royal responsibilities with a sense of humour and affection for each other that, over the decades, is testament to their long-lasting love.
The external circle represents the 25th Silver Anniversary and depicts Irises to represent wisdom, promise and faith. Ivy, representing wedded love, affection and fidelity is also depicted in addition to Myrtle, a Hebrew emblem of marriage. The Myrtle present in Her Majesty's wedding arrangement was actually grown from the Myrtle in Queen Victoria's!
The centre circle represents the 50th Golden Anniversary and reveals Roses to represent inner joy, joy and true love. Sweet Pea and Honeysuckle are likewise present as they are the flowers that represent the birth months of The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh respectively.
The inner circle represents the 70th Platinum Wedding Anniversary and shows an Orchid representing love and long life. The obverse includes a dual effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II along with her partner HRH Prince Philip in the main ring which is created by and special to Pobjoy Mint. Sweet Pea and Honey Suckle are likewise duplicated on the centre ring.
